FROM THE WORD

INSIDE TODAY’S SERMON: LUKE 17:11-19

Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!”

When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed. One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan.

Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?” Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”

ADDITIONAL

DON’T TAKE HIM FOR GRANTED

It seemed impossible. The respected business consultant asked how people would respond if he announced the discovery of a “magic potion” that could make them “happier, healthier, more optimistic and more productive.” What if this “cost nothing” and required “very little effort”?

The consultant admitted he actually didn’t have a potion. But, he said, “Each of us has something even better.” What was he referring to? Gratitude!

He described how gratitude improves relationships and reduces negativity. It improves problem-solving skills because it opens our minds to new possibilities. And it helps us learn, by enabling us to recognize that behind every problem lies an opportunity.

Gratitude is an important biblical principle. We see this when Jesus was approached by 10 lepers. After they cried out for mercy, He commanded them to “go and show yourselves to the priests.” Before they departed, nothing had happened. But “as they were going, they were cleansed.”

Nine of the 10 went on their way, never stopping to give thanks. But one was overwhelmed with gratitude. Returning to Jesus, He glorified God “with a loud voice.” Then “he fell on his face” at Jesus’ feet, “giving thanks to Him.”

Jesus was amazed that only this man—who was a Samaritan—had returned to give thanks. He told him, “Stand up and go; your faith has made you well.”

The nine others received their miracle, but they seemed to have taken Jesus for granted. Yet there were special blessings for the one who was grateful.

Remember to be grateful for all God has done for you. Be specific about thanking Him for the many ways He has blessed you and met your needs. Praise Him for the prayers He has answered. Don’t take Him for granted.

Inspiration Ministries

TODAY IS THE DAY OF SALVATION

The invitation at the close of each worship service extends an opportunity for anyone outside of Christ to unite with him and become a Christian through belief (John 3:16); repentance (turning away from sin,

Acts 2:38); confession of belief in Christ (Romans 10:10); baptism into Christ for forgiveness of sins and the gift of the Holy Spirit (Mark 16:16, Acts 2:38, Romans 6:1-8) and devoting the rest of your life to

Christ (Matthew 10:22).

The Lord’s invitation also is open to anyone desiring to rededicate his or her life to Christ; to baptized

believers wanting to transfer their membership to this congregation, or to request prayer support.

ABOUT US

For more than a half-century, we have been a restoration plea fellowship in unity with other independent New Testament church bodies. Certainly, we are not the only Christians, but we are Christians only.

In that regard, we assume no denominational name. We observe the Lord’s Supper every Sunday to honor him and reflect upon his great sacrifice on our behalf (Acts 2:42, 1 Corinthians 11:23-28, Hebrews 10:25).

We teach directly from the Bible. Where it speaks clearly – such as the Gospel plan of salvation and other directions or commands – we seek unity. In matters of opinion, where the Bible does not expressly speak, we seek liberty. In all things, however, we speak love for one another, just as Jesus loved us and laid down his life for us!

If you agree with these matters, please join us to proclaim salvation and unity to those who need to hear it in the name of our blessed Lord and only Savior, Jesus Christ. We urgently invite you to do so since his glorious return is imminent.
